“Save Our Water” Exhibit Blooms at 2010 California State Fair Farm

SACRAMENTO– Save Our Water, the state’s largest water conservation program, will host a special exhibit at the California State Fair from July 14-August 1. The display is part of the State Fair Farm and will highlight Save Our Water’s “Real People, Real Savings” summer campaign to teach fair visitors how to conserve water in their own yards.

Save Our Water & Bed Bath & Beyond® Join On Water-Saving Giveaway

(SACRAMENTO) – Save Our Water, California’s largest statewide water conservation public education program, has joined with Bed Bath & Beyond® to help promote water conservation in California. On Saturday, July 10th, Save Our Water will distribute 1,000 five-minute shower timers* for free at 20 California Bed Bath & Beyond®, stores—20,000 in total—to help encourage Californians to save water by taking shorter showers (*while supplies last).

Save Our Water Launches Online Ad Campaign

(SACRAMENTO) – California’s largest statewide water conservation program, Save Our Water, unveiled a new online advertising campaign today. The Web ads are based on the public education program’s summer campaign, Real People, Real Savings, and feature everyday Californians who are saving water inside and outside their homes.

Survey Shows Californians Believe Saving Water Is Important, Even In Wet Years

With evidence that people believe that the state is short on water and are willing to save, the state’s water conservation program—Save Our Water—kicked off a new campaign featuring real Californians. The announcement coincided with the release of a new survey which shows that 94% of voters believe that, even with this year’s wet weather, the state needs to conserve water. Conducted on behalf of the Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA), the survey also showed that 86% of people say that they are willing to make significant changes in their household activities to reduce their water use by 20%.

Save Our Water Program To Sponsor Garden Show At 2010 San Diego County Fair

(SACRAMENTO) – Save Our Water, California’s largest statewide water conservation public education program, today announced its sponsorship of the Flower and Garden Show at the 2010 San Diego County Fair. Fairgoers will have the opportunity to learn about the importance and benefits of saving water when they visit the Flower and Garden Show, where displays will include water-efficient gardens and California-friendly flowers.

State Water Managers Call for Continued Conservation

Sacramento – Despite average rain and snowfall, water will be in short supply for some areas of the state this year, the Department of Water Resources announced today. Though recent storms allowed the department to slightly increase projected water deliveries for 2010, the state’s top water managers say Californians must use water more efficiently as a normal course of business.

“SAVE OUR WATER” Highlighted in April Issue of National Geographic

Sacramento – California editions of National Geographic's special issue on water include a four-page insert guide to water conservation sponsored by the Save Our Water program. The April issue of the magazine, titled "Water: Our Thirsty World," is devoted entirely to water and includes a lengthy story on California and its ongoing water supply challenges. This is the first time in more than 20 years that National Geographic has committed an entire issue to one topic.

California's New Year's Resolution: Conserve Water

As the new year gets under way, water officials are calling on Californians to make water conservation a priority in 2010. With the state’s water reserves low after three consecutive drought years and mandatory cuts in deliveries, state and local water managers are urging residents to start the year right with a set of “10 Water-Saving Tips for 2010.”

California Ends Third Dry Year

Sacramento – California embarks on a new water year tomorrow (October 1) with concerns about a fourth consecutive year of drought, serious water shortages and uncertain weather ahead. The 2009-10 water year runs from October 1, 2009 to September 30, 2010.

Fairgoers Pledge to Save Nearly 13 Million Gallons of Water per Month

Californians visiting the 2009 State Fair pledged to save nearly 13 million gallons of water per month at home, according to a tally of pledges taken at the “Save Our Water” exhibit at the fair. The exhibit, a joint effort of the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) and the Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA), drew more than 9,000 visitors over the course of the fair, which ran from Aug. 21 to Sept. 7.
